After the Assembly cleared a coronavirus relief package, the state Senate is scheduled to convene at 11 a.m. to take it up.

But unlike the Assembly, the Senate’s virtual floor session is slated to take place outside of its chamber.

Senate President Roger Roth’s office says the session will be held in room 411 South and will be conducted almost entirely virtually.

Only Roth, Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling will be in the room, though members can join from their Capitol offices.

The COVID-19 legislation lawmakers are set to take up cleared the Assembly yesterday 97-2. The package would give the Joint Finance Committee new powers to redirect money to help cover expenses related to COVID-19, help Wisconsin qualify for more federal Medicaid money, and suspend a one-week waiting period before those laid off can begin collecting unemployment benefits, among other things.

But the final package passed by the Assembly included several changes proposed by Speaker Robin Vos that passed along party lines. A Fitzgerald spokesman indicated the Senate intends to take up the package as amended by the Assembly.
