Rural Schools Task Force Holds First Meeting

The Speaker’s Task Force on Rural Schools met for the first time on Oct. 23 in Rhinelander. The task force, chaired by state Representative Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander), is looking for solutions to problems facing rural schools.
The public hearing—the first of four across the state—featured five superintendents from school districts in the Rhinelander area: Mike Richie, Northland Pines; Kelli Jacobi, Rhinelander; Dr. Delnice Hill, Phelps; Todd Kleinhans, Lakeland UHS; Ben Niehaus, Florence & Goodman Armstrong Creek. Area business and community leaders also spoke to the committee.
