Superintendents Plan Press Conference in Milton

By Wisconsin School Administrators Alliance staff | June 2, 2015

?Five south-central Wisconsin superintendents are inviting their area colleagues to join them this Friday morning for a press conference to discuss how the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) budget impacts public education in Wisconsin.  The invitation for area superintendents is pasted below.  This is an outstanding example of how SAA members can engage the media, inform the public and continue the push to “change the conversation” in Wisconsin to focus on those issues that move the needle for children.

Hats off to all involved!

Good Morning,

During our CESA 2 regional meeting yesterday, we discussed the Joint Finance Committee proposal and the impacts on the educational system in Wisconsin. We also discussed what we can do as a superintendent group to bring awareness to our communities and the representatives in Madison. We decided to hold a multi-district press conference as a way to show our collective support for public education and our staffs.

We are asking for your district’s attendance at a press conference this Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Milton, as a sign of solidarity. The purpose of the press conference is to give a brief overview (short, prepared statement from us…perhaps the talking points Bernie in Cambridge prepared and sent out to the community) of how the Joint Finance Committee proposal impacts public education in Wisconsin from our lens. We are not planning on speaking about the local impact on our individual districts, rather in the broader and more global terms.  Since the intent is to talk about public education and not politics, we are not going to reach out to local politicians. This is not a debate or judgement of any party, it is simply a collective effort to get information out about the impact of the policy proposals within the budget motion on our students and schools.

Please respond if you are able to attend this Friday.  We are also asking that you invite your business managers, school board members, key community advocates and local media outlets to make them aware of this event.

The press conference will be held at:

School District of Milton District Offices (former CESA 2 building)
448 East High Street
Milton, WI 53563

We hope to see you Friday,

Tim Schigur, Milton

Eric Runez, Whitewater

Jerry Roth, Evansville

Randy Refsland, Clinton

Dennis McCarthy, Beloit Turner
