This morning, the Senate Education Committee recommended for passage several bills supported by the SAA (see below).
AB-110 Dyslexia Guidebook (Legislative Council) Developing a guidebook related to dyslexia and related conditions. Senate Am. 1 adopted, 7-1. Passage as amended recommended, 7-1. The SAA is neutral on this bill but was instrumental in developing the Senate amendment altering the membership of the advisory committee created by the bill.
SB-138 Professional Development Training (Darling, Alberta) Professional development training in character education for teachers, pupil service professionals, principals, and school district administrators, granting rule-making authority, and making an appropriation. Am. 1 adopted, 8-0. Passage as amended recommended, 6-2. SAA support.
AB-194 Special Ed Licenses (Tranel, Travis) Requirements for initial licensure as a special education teacher. Passage recommended, 8-0. SAA support.
SB-415 Equalization Aid (Olsen, Luther) The timing of equalization aid payments to school districts. Am. 1 adopted, 7-0. Passage as amended recommended, 7-0. SAA support.
SB-408 Pupil Counting (Olsen, Luther) Counting pupils enrolled in four-year-old kindergarten. Passage recommended, 7-1. SAA support.
SB-409 Feasibility Study Grants (Olsen, Luther) Grants for feasibility studies of school district consolidation or whole grade sharing and making an appropriation. Passage recommended, 8-0. SAA support.
SB-412 Categorical Aid (Darling, Alberta) Whole grade sharing categorical aid for school boards and making an appropriation. Am. 2 adopted, 8-0. Passage as amended recommended, 8-0. SAA support.
SB-413 Shared Services Aid (Darling, Alberta) A shared services aid program for school districts, granting rule-making authority, and making an appropriation. Am. 1 adopted, 7-0. Passage as amended recommended, 7-0. SAA support.
