The Assembly will be on the floor this afternoon to take up the state budget.
Debate is scheduled to start around noon. An email from Majority Leader Jim Steineke on Monday said leadership intends “to end no later than midnight.”
In the Senate, Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald tweeted yesterday members have been notified the chamber plans to be in at 9:30 a.m. Friday to take up the budget.
Fitzgerald told reporters after the Foxconn vote that he doesn’t currently have the 17 votes needed to pass the budget, but he’s hopeful it’ll happen by Friday.
“I think the senators want to get the budget done, and I think there’s a willingness to kind of work with leadership to make that happen,” he said.
He said he has at least 15 votes but that he hasn’t talked to every member individually about where they stand. Some members, he said, have a “mixed bag of issues” such as wanting certain transportation projects advanced or concerns about state spending increasing in the $76 billion budget.
He said he hopes Republicans can settle on a final agreement that the Assembly would take up today so the Senate can vote on it Friday.
